Spring 2026 Update

Hello there!

It’s been a little while since I have written one of these posts. Fall/winter is a busy time of year as a therapist, and now that spring is here, I’m finally getting some time to sit down and write.

Spring is my favourite season, and I think it lifts the moods of many here in Vernon. This spring, my main focus has been on gardening: I’ve been starting seeds, weeding, planting zinnias, cosmos, lavender, catmint, snapdragons and calendula. The list goes on! It may seem obvious, but did you know that gardening is excellent for mental health? It can reduce stress and anxiety, increase dopamine, and boost self esteem by giving a sense of accomplishment. I can definitely attest to that!

Practice Happenings 🗓️

I’m excited to share a bit about one of the things that has been keeping me so busy over these past few months: an Etsy shop for therapists! I have been having so much fun creating resources for therapists such as practice management tools, marketing guides, financial trackers, goal setting worksheets, and more.

I was inspired to start this because I have experienced firsthand the learning curve of starting a private practice, and have naturally been creating resources to support myself... so I figured, why not share them! I also love making things and having a dedicated creative outlet like this has been really enjoyable.

Professional Photos 📷

I decided it was time to upgrade my website and profile photos, so I decided to get some professional photos taken by the lovely Tara Pena from Primer Rust and Roses! She did such a lovely job, I can’t recommend her enough.

I know how important it is to feel a sense of comfort and connection before you step into the office to meet a therapist, so I hope these images reflect the warm, welcoming space I am working to cultivate 🙂

Book Recommendations 📚

I’ve been continuing to do a fair bit of reading lately! I find it a great way to wind down before bed. Here are some of the books I have been enjoying lately:

This is a very candid memoir of a woman’s marriage suddenly falling apart. Set in the backdrop of incredible privilege, the author tells her story of losing and then reclaiming her agency within the power dynamics of the relationship. I found this one hard to put down.

This is a fascinating exploration of an American family with 12 children, 6 of whom ended up with a diagnosis of schizophrenia. I appreciated how this book recounts the family members’ experiences of growing up within that family, while also exploring the parallel unfolding of scientists’ understanding of schizophrenia - and how this family helped contribute to some of the research that helped build that understanding.

Coming Up 💙

I’m excited to share that I have been accepted to study Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (SP), starting in September 2026! SP is a type of therapy that works to address trauma and attachment issues using the wisdom of the body-mind connection. I decided to embark on this training as a way to complement EMDR and better serve my clients with complex/attachment trauma.

I think this modality will be a great fit for my practice interests and values, and I’m looking forward to sharing it with my clients!

I hope you have a lovely spring,

Charlotte
